***New*** LASS Doctoral Research Journal
The Faculty Graduate School is making funding available for the production of an annual student-led research publication celebrating the wealth of doctoral research in the Faculty. This will take the form of a collection of short papers and graphic images, in the style of an academic journal but aimed at a general readership. There will be a printed version and an online version, linked to the Graduate School website. The aims are: –
- To publicise and promote doctoral research in LASS
- To appeal to a broad readership across the University and beyond
- To be inclusive across all six Schools
- To give a flavour of the research in each School, without necessarily attempting to be representative
- To give contributors the opportunity to develop their skills in communicating their research to wider audience
- To give the Editorial Board experience in academic editorship and managing the review process
Each year, we will appoint an academic Editorial Board, with broad representation across the six Schools; a Technical Editor to deal with presentation, layout and graphics; a Web Editor to deal with the online version; and an Editor-in-Chief who will take overall responsibility.
Contributions should be in the form of short papers (2-3 A4 pages) written for a general audience. The Editorial Board will be responsible for producing the Call for Papers, coordinating the review process, and selecting the final set of papers based on the referees’ reports.
Like an academic journal, the booklet will be mainly black and white but can include coloured images.
Timeline: deadline for initial call for editors 31 May 09; deadline for submissions 31st October 09; deadline for reviewing 31st December 09; publication date by Spring 2010.
